About
The Rhode Island Food Policy Council (RIFPC) and FCAP partners are taking a multi-level approach to increase food access and boost food-related climate and environmental resilience in five Rhode Island municipalities: Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls, Newport, and Middletown.
- RIFPC is a network based nonprofit that educates advocates and convenes the Rhode Island community towards a more just and resilient food system. As partnership founders they will focus on empowering Council Members to take action to advocate for a more sustainable wasted food system.
- CET is a national leader in providing technical assistance to help businesses and institutions reduce wasted food through prevention, donation, and food scrap diversion. CET works across the Northeast and will deepen their existing work in Rhode Island through this partnership.
- FoodRecovery.org is a leader in the logistics of connecting those with surplus food to nonprofit recipients serving their communities. Powered by the MEANS Database, their website provides the tools to make the connection between food donor and recipient easy and then help facilitate all aspects of the donation.
Building upon RIFPC and FCAP partners’ proven track record of work to redistribute resources, pass good food policies, and increase justice and resilience in RI’s food system, FCAP is catalyzing change, creating measurable progress toward a more just and resilient food system in RI, and cultivating civic engagement, a key ingredient in the democratic process.
Our goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Rhode Island by (1) increasing composting of food scraps, (2) increasing donation of excess food, and (3) advancing long-term solutions leading to significant reductions in the amount of food being landfilled.
