The Rhode Island Food Climate Action Partnership (FCAP) is a new initiative, funded by the Rhode Island Foundation Catalyst Program. The design of this project enables measurable results at both state and municipal levels in five target municipalities: Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls, Newport, and Middletown). FCAP provides direct benefits through community building; engagement on issues of climate action and sustainability with residents, schools, and businesses; development of a circular economy; food recovery; compost production; reduction of runoff from gardens and farms; water conservation; reduction of CO2 equivalents including methane and other greenhouse gasses.

Specifically, we deliver:

  • Reduction in food waste entering the landfill
  • Increase in recovery of ‘excess food’ and delivery of this food to community partners that feed food insecure households
  • Reduction in Greenhouse Gas emissions (CO2 equivalent) being produced by surplus food, organic waste/food scraps
  • Food policy priority advocacy efforts leading to a better food policy environment
  • Convenings cultivating more and stronger relationships between diverse food system organizations and stakeholders
  • Multi-channel communication about related news and events
  • Clear, consistent metrics and indicators for RI’s food system
  • Educational and capacity-building programming about the food system, policy, and advocacy
  • Outreach to municipalities related to increasing food waste composting
  • Coordination of the state Wasted Food Solutions Action Network and related plan implementation supports

Businesses and institutions in the five target municipalities are eligible NOW for free support that can help you find COST-SAVING ways to reduce your waste hauling costs and make a positive climate change impact at the same time. Email [email protected] to make an appointment.
